Impact of land-use dynamics on land surface temperature in Mumbai city, India: A geospatial approach

چکیده
To assess and monitor the environmental dynamics on a regional or global scale, Land Surface Temperature (LST) has been estimated for South Mumbai, using Landsat data years 2000, 2010, 2015, 2020. The urban heat island (UHI) effect also assessed by analysing LST pattern in study area. normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) analysis shows that UHI effects are less when cover is high. On contrary, built-up (NDBI) directly proportional to which indicates impact of human activities as well UHI. relationship between area ambient air temperature shown strong correlation with an increasing trend from 2000 reveals average Mumbai increased 27.1 32.7 °C last twenty years. ward-wise profile carried out address worst thermal discomfort zone associated population. suggests green space maintaining Mumbai. This provides baseline future studies like health, climate change, assessment ecological status, etc. environment.

Impact of urban land cover change on land surface temperature
The rapid growth in urban population is seen to create a need for the development of more urban infrastructures. In order to meet this need, natural surfaces such as vegetation are been replaced with non-vegetated surfaces such as asphalt and bricks which has the ability to absorb heat and release it later. This change in land cover is seen to increase the land surface temperature. Previous stu...
متن کاملHighlighting the Importance of the Vegetation Variable on Distributed Land surface temperature on different land use/land cover in Javanrud city range
In environmental models, Vegetations are considered as an important part in controlling environmental changes. To determine the importance of vegetation on land surface temperature (LST), preliminary preprocessing was performed on Landsat 8 image and a split window procedure was used to determine surface temperature. Temperature difference with the surrounding synoptic stations was estimated to...
متن کاملImpact of land-use and land-cover changes on temperature trends over Western India
We study the regional variation of temperature trends (warming or cooling) over Western India and the contribution of land-use and land-cover (LULC) changes towards this warming or cooling based on temperature datasets of 37 years (1973–2009). The contribution of LULC to the warming or cooling is estimated based on deviation in temperature in the observation and reanalysis datasets. The observe...
متن کاملA Survey of Landscape Metrics and Land-use/land-cover Structures on Urban Heat Islands Surface: A Case Study on Urmia City, Iran
Urbanization is developing unprecedentedly on a global scale. One of the chief repercussions of urbanization, caused by man-made alterations in land-use/land-cover (LULC), is the formation of urban heat islands. Albeit, differences among landscape structures and its accompanied effects on the environment are mostly neglected. Accordingly, the main objective of this study is to survey the variou...
متن کاملAssessment of Terrain and Land Use/Land Cover Changes of Mine Sites using Geospatial Techniques in Plateau State, Nigeria
In this paper, we report a geospatial assessment of the selected mine sites in the Plateau State, Nigeria. The aim of this work is to determine the impact of mining on the terrain as well as the Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) of the host communities. The Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) is used for the terrain mapping. The derived impact of mining on LULC between 1975 and 2014 is determined...
